   André DUSSOIX
A multi-talented artist, André Dussoix showed, from adolescence, a keen curiosity for the artistic field, especially for painting, and received, at the age of 18, a scholarship to follow courses in California, crowned by a diploma. After completing his artistic studies in Geneva, he went to San Francisco, then to Mexico where he participated in shamanic experiments, which deeply marked him. Parallel to his artistic activity (painting, sculpture, ceramics, performances), he taught for thirty years the visual arts in Geneva.

In addition, seduced by primitive art, he feeds on the dynamics of ancient peoples and translates these various sources and experiences into works of great variety according to the periods of life. With a rich experience, both theoretical and practical, he tries his hand at various expressions, oscillating between representation and abstraction, whether in painting, drawing, or in connection with dance, scenography and performance art.
Inspired throughout his career by the movement of bodies, coiled, unrolled, straightened, fascinated precisely by the dynamics of dance and theater, these sources inspire and concern him constantly.
For the creation of the most recent works, he expresses himself through collages. His choice is the fragmentation of cinema posters, glued on canvas, enhanced with ink and felt paint, works in which he gives free rein to his talents as a combined draftsman and painter. A series of portraits such as Tabou Ryühei, Ghost Dog or The Way of the Samurai, executed with great freedom, are also among the collage paintings.
Another part of the exhibition is devoted to older non-figurative works belonging in particular to the series of Abysses, in which the artist takes us into unsuspected depths, in search of secrets buried in the depths of souls and ancestral times. Masterful works, of large format. An astonishing, stunning exhibition, rich in movement and energy, where two worlds, on the borders of each other, collide and question each other.

André Dussoix, born in Geneva in 1944, lives and works in Geneva and Haute-Savoie. Secondary studies at the Collège de Genève, and a year as a student in San Diego, California. In parallel, music at the Consevatoire. After graduating from the Ecole Normale de Dessin et des Beaux-Arts in Geneva (1969), he stayed a second time in California to continue his experiments in the field of experimental theatre, notably with Ann Halprin's troupe in San Francisco.

On his return, he settled with his wife in their workshops on a farm in Haute-Savoie. They regularly invite the group of artists "Espace-Corps". Total destruction of the workshops in 1982 by a fire, then renaissance. Parallel to his artistic activity (painting, sculpture, ceramics, performances), he taught visual arts for thirty years in Geneva. During an extended leave of absence (1987-1988), he obtained a post-graduate certificate from the Pratt Institute in New York and lived an initiator experience in Mexico. Numerous exhibitions in Switzerland, France (Paris, Tours, Thonon), Canada (Montreal), United States (New York, Brooklyn). Numerous works in public and private collections in Switzerland, the United States, Asia and Europe.

Legend of the work: "Feat", Maud, 2020, ink on collage on canvas, 140 x 140 x 4 cm
